Starfield is Bethesda Studios’ latest RPG, where the player is set loose to explore abundant locations, cities, planets, and worlds across the galaxy.

And as you would imagine, spaceships are a big feature in Starfield. Therefore, you can expect to spend a hefty amount on upgrading parts and getting new spaceships.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, as a game centered around space exploration will naturally rely on durable ships that help you traverse the galaxy and protect yourself from space outlaws.

That being said, as expensive as some of them are, the game does throw a few free spaceships on your way. Whether you use them, have them as collectibles, or sell them for money is completely up to you!

How to Get Free Ships in Starfield

There are 5 free ships that you can obtain in Starfield. Here’s how you can get your hands on all of them:

1. Frontier

Frontier is the first ship you get right at the beginning of your space odyssey. This default ship is far from the greatest but can be considered well-rounded in the earlier phases of the game. However, if you’re considering using this throughout your journey, you must upgrade just about every part of it.

2. Star Eagle

The Star Eagle Ship is obtained by completing the final mission of the Freestar Rangers called ‘The Hammer Falls.’ You can join the Freestar Rangers in Akila City and The Rock in the city’s center. This will involve completing the ‘Job Gone Wrong‘ mission, where you must resolve a bank robbery to join the Rangers. Your reward is one of the best ships in the game.

3. Razorleaf

Head to the Nova Galactic Staryard. After heading to the location, you can obtain a Secret Outpost note from the Spacers you encounter there. This item then starts the Mantis side quest. Thereafter, you can head to the Denebola system for the main quest.

After several bouts with the enemies present there, you will find yourself in a room with multiple corpses. Once you solve the puzzles there, you will be able to cross past the turrets. Then, finally, you’ll find Razorleaf.

4. Wanderwell

Wanderwell is one of the free spaceships that the player can acquire by just selecting a trait called Kid Stuff during the character-building screen.

After that, completing a few side quests in New Atlantis will prompt the notification saying, “Dad wants to talk with you.” This will let the player visit their parents’ house in New Atlantic, where the ship is found.

5. UC Prison Shuttle

Being one of the most underwhelming ships in the game, we find no reason to get it other than just to have it in your collection. You can obtain the UC Prison Shuttle by getting caught after committing a crime in New Atlantis.

Once captured, the military office tasks you with infiltrating the Crimson Fleet. After completing a series of such quests, you will proceed to a quest called “Echoes of the Past,” where you need to escape from prison, and the ship you will use is the UC Prison Shuttle.
