In the true spirit of Christmas, one local restaurant is doing what it can to spread holiday cheer.

The union block in downtown Boise has a long history of being kind to the less fortunate on Christmas.

"Old Chicago carried on a tradition for about 20 years, on Christmas they fed the homeless, so we really wanted to kick off the opening of our restaurant and keep that tradition growing," said Corey Bailey, head chef at Mai Thai.

The owner of Mai Thai on Idaho street is opening a new restaurant right next door, it's called Union, and to celebrate they're following Old Chicago's lead.

"And so we’re feeding anyone who’s in need families, the homeless and needs that extra help we’re going to do 300 meals tomorrow," Bailey said.

They'll be handing out boxed meals filled with traditional food like turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a dessert.

15 volunteers will be working tomorrow on Christmas to allow others to enjoy the holiday.

"It’s nice we had a lot of our vendors donated almost everything you know like when we told them what we wanted to do everybody kinda got behind the idea and chipped in and some of the vendors donated and they’re coming to help as well," Bailey added.

The motivation behind this act of kindness comes from the top, the owner of Mai Thai.

"It’s a really good feeling to be honest I’ve only been working in Mai Thai for about three months but it’s kinda inspiring to see what Billy does for the community the clothing drives he holds and all that kinda stuff it’s really hard just to not get behind him because it’s such an inspiring thing to see, someone being so selfless and helping the less fortunate especially this year with covid and that type of stuff and so it’s really awesome to be part of a group and company that is so committed to helping and giving back as much as they can,"
