Gail Gagne, a former teacher and coach at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul, was convicted today of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a 16-year-old student.

The inappropriate sexual encounters took place during the summer of 2008, when Gagne, 25, was working at the Catholic high school as a weight room supervisor.

Judge Richard Sherer ruled that Gagne must provide a DNA sample and register as a sex offender in Minnesota and California, and pay a $300 fine. A one-year jail sentence was stayed, provided she remains a law abiding citizen.

Gail will be on probation for two years and must have no contact with the victim or his family. The judge ruled that Gagne may no longer work with minors as a teacher, or in any other capacity.

The victim is now a college student. His mother read an emotional statement: “Our family is left holding the dirty laundry of the defendant’s unprofessional and self-serving actions.”

The defendant did not speak in court. Her lawyer, Earl Gray, indicates that his client is now working and living in California. She is the daughter of former pro wrestler Greg Gagne, and granddaughter of famous wrestling champion Verne Gagne.

Grandpa got into a heap of trouble himself, when he caused the death of a nursing home patient in 2009.
