According to a Facebook post made by the Idaho Humane Society, Animal Care and Control were alerted of a raccoon living with an illegal trap locked on its paw off Eagle/Chinden roads a few weeks ago.

The raccoon dragged it around until the trap became lodged in a tree after the raccoon tried to escape a barking dog.

Humane Officers brought the raccoon into Idaho Humane Society Shelter Medical Center for x-rays and care.

It was discovered that the raccoon had sustained several broken toes, but luckily that was the extent of its injuries. The Humane Society provided antibiotics, cleaned its toes and passed him over to the Animals In Distress Association & Ruth Melichar Bird Center.

The Idaho Humane Society is asking for help in identifying who placed the illegal trap. Anyone with information should email outreach@idahohumanesociety.org.

If you have traps at your home, check your garages/storage areas to see if they have been tampered with and taken without your permission by a child or another individual.

Traps must have identifying marks on them to be considered legal by Idaho Fish and Game. The traps involved with the raccoon held no such mark.
