Following the grand success of the “Quarterback” docuseries, Netflix has focused on the wide receivers of the NFL in its sequel. However, it appears George Kittle isn’t too thrilled about the upcoming “Receiver” docuseries as he addressed some of his complaints against it.

The plan to keep the focus on wide receivers and tight ends in the sequel of the Quarterback series wasn’t the initial plan of Netflix. After focusing on Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota in the first season, the streaming service provider wanted to do another season with Quarterback in the spotlight but different from the previous ones.

However, Netflix had to drop this idea after the NFL teams didn’t show much interest– as the San Francisco 49ers’ star shared some behind-the-facts things, during his recent appearance on the “Bussin with the Boys” podcast.

They weren’t getting a lot of support from around the league. A lot of teams said no, our quarterback is not going to do it, so they pivoted to ‘Receivers'.
George Kittle said

He further shared that the teams didn’t want their quarterback to get distracted by the cameras and cause the whole team to collapse on the field. Also, young aspiring players who are yet to establish their name in the league didn’t want the cameras to catch glimpses of their personal lives.

George Kittle’s initial hesitation to participate in Netflix docuseries

While talking on the subject, the 49ers star also revealed how he almost declined to participate in the Receivers docuseries. He was told about it just 10 days before the 2023 NFL season opener by the Netflix production team.

They informed him that he would be given a mic during the games and they would record him with cameras running across before as well as after the games. Moreover, they also asked to include his life outside the football field to give fans a deeper way to connect.

With such high demands, the tight end almost refused to participate, as he felt “weird” with all the shenanigans. But then he watched the Quarterback series and was really impressed by the way they featured the quarterbacks and that’s why he agreed.
